Change the World One Bathroom at a Time

Town & Country Plumbing

Do you know proper bathroom etiquette?

This month’s post is about being a courteous bathroom user. Hopefully, everyone can remember the horrors they might have experienced in restrooms. Now, you might think that everyone knows how to keep a bathroom nice and that the messy people are just lazy.

However, even the most conscientious person can sometimes make mistakes. Everyone could use a brush-up on the basics of bathroom etiquette. Read on to see how you can help make society better and be the change you want to see in the restrooms of the world.

Prevent Awkward Situations with Toilet Cleaning
You’d probably have enough for a nice staycation if you had a dollar for every time you walked in on a bathroom stall with wetness on the floor, drips on the seat, toilet paper on the floor, or a disgusting urinal. Do you always suffer from people doing this, or do you help create restrooms like that?

It’s always a smart idea to take an extra moment or two to make sure you’re leaving the toilet or urinal in as good of a condition or better than you found it. You never know, someone might walk into the stall right after you and see you as they do.

If you left it a mess, they might express their displeasure about it verbally in the bathroom within earshot of other users, gossip about it outside the bathroom, or even have the courage to scold you or identify you to others! Cleaning up after yourself means less embarrassment and shame.

Products for a Trash & NOT a Toilet
Sometimes it’s tempting just to flush a tampon down the toilet, use flushable wipes, or flush a baby’s diaper down the toilet. A diaper will definitely cause a blockage, so never do that.

Tampons can grow three times as large when they were flushed, and they don’t break down like toilet paper does.

And even though some bathroom wipes are labeled “flushable” they still shouldn’t be flushed since it doesn’t mean they won’t cause blockage in your pipes, or in someone else’s pipes. Flushing items down the toilet can cause clogs bad enough to make repiping necessary, so don’t be the jerk that ruins someone’s pipes.

Avoid Chain Reactions
Plumbing emergencies can happen at any time, and you don’t want to be the cause of one. If you notice a toilet is acting sluggish, have it inspected if it’s in your home, or else notify someone in charge if it’s at a public establishment.

If you hover over the toilet to pee (ladies) or else don’t aim well (gentlemen), you might get pee all over and cause a chain reaction of everyone else being careless and trashing the toilet.

We know keeping your aim can be challenging, especially if you drank too much, but it’s important to be as responsible as possible to prevent plumbing emergencies from ruining the bathroom for everything. Remember, only you can be responsible for your actions and for the part you play in keeping bathrooms nice or horrible. You can promise yourself to #keepyouraim and make your bathroom and public bathrooms better places to do your business in.

If you don’t cause messes but know other people that make bathrooms horrible, you can casually leave this article lying around the office or share it to your Facebook profile to drop a hint to the bathroom wreckers in your life.
