Most Common Plumbing Emergencies – According to the Experts

Most Common Plumbing Emergencies

The lion's share of the earth is covered by water. We sail on it, drink it, cook with it, and over half of the living creatures on the planet live in it. However, despite how much we rely on water for life, it is without a doubt one of the most destructive forces we know.

Anyone who's had to call a plumber in a panic knows how damaging and costly water can be. Here are some of the most panic-inducing and just plain frustrating examples of when it may be time to call in the professionals.

Fixing Leaking Fixtures
You can hear the dripping in your nightmares. It started two days ago and you want to gingerly place a stick of dynamite in the bathroom to stop it. Not the most rational image but leaky faucets have a way of feeling like torture for some of us. You can drag out the tools and have a look at it yourself, but before you do, consider what you are getting into.

The washer that seals the valve could be brittle and cracked. Or, the seat itself may have become corroded. The more you tinker the deeper the rabbit hole may go. If you are fond of the fixture, you may wish to call an expert who will have special tools and may just save not just your fixture, but your sanity as well.

Overflowing Toilets Happen
You press down on the silver lever and you already know. Perhaps by the sound or maybe some cosmic intuition but there is no denying it, your toilet is going to overflow. Before you grab your trusty plunger you make a last-ditch effort to shut the valve off. The water rises and you bite your lip. It stops just shy of a soggy disaster. Not all stories like this have a happy ending. Sometimes it's not you in the bathroom to take control of the situation. Sometimes it is a toddler with a toy looking for an undersea adventure.

These are times when even a plunger won't be of much help. The toilet is blocked and you are going to need some help. Call someone with the right tools for the job. Call a plumber.

Burst Pipes Can Be Scary
It's a quiet winter day in Rogers, AR. You are relaxing with family in the living room enjoying a movie. Just as the credits start to roll you hear something loud from in the basement like a thud. There is something else, sounds like water! You rush down to the basement and are met with a sight no homeowner ever wants to see. Your water line pipes have burst. Lucky for you that you know where the main valve is to stop water from coming into the house.

You were lucky to be home when it happened. Pipes can give out for a number of reasons. Old age, temperature variations or an unknown fault can result in an emergency. In this case, you need to call a plumber as soon as the water flow has stopped and order is restored.

Blocked Drains Are a Pain
One of the grosser of the plumbing problems is blocked drains. Not for the water that refuses to go down, but for the debris that is blocking the way. The most common for bathrooms is human hair. Hair is resilient and requires harsh chemical agents to dissolve. Or in the kitchen, you may be looking at food or cooking oils clogging up the drain-pipes. You may be doubly unfortunate and have lost a ring down a drain that makes store-bought remedies ineffective.

Don't struggle with blocked drains that do not clear from a few attempts. Call someone who has years of plumbing experience to get the job done quickly and you will probably get your ring back.
